How do you manage to write stories?

Okay, I’m young and I have a lot of ideas. I’ve written many ideas but only get around to writing a page or two. Then I get bored. Then I start another one. There was this one story I wrote which I showed to my sister saying it was somebody else’s (since she’s really critical). She actually said it was good and I really want to carry on writing it but for some annoying reason I can’t write more than a paragraph without starting a new one.
It’s really frustrating. Any advice on how to stop this habit?
Thanksx

  1. No plot no story. Find a plot and the rest is easy.

  2. That is the same with me, I just get another idea and then I am not interested in my old one any more. What I do is I write all my ideas in the back of a notepad and leave them there, I do not let myself look at them and then I forget them until I have finished the story I am on. You could also write a short story every few days just so you don’t get bored with writing about the same subject all the time.

    Hope this helps :)

  3. Well, not many people can become writers, especially if they are younger. My advice for you is to make it a short story. A short story can be any length from 3 pages to 20. It all has to do with the author. I think that to actually stop the habit you need to get a reason or drive to write that specific story. Its hit or miss, and an author needs to go over every option. Finally, if you make an indepth plan that involves deep character descriptions, settings, and whatnot, the actual writing of the story will come much more smoothly.

  4. Plan your story. I have a journal which I write about all the characters, things that I want to happen and add to it everytime I get an idea. I write paragraphs or pages in it then when I begin to write the story from scratch, I place them all together, extending what I have written and kept. Sometimes I combine different stories I’ve written too.
I don’t know whether that will help you, but thing I find is that once you have most of the story, the words begin flowing without any writers block.

  5. I have the same problem, but then I started to use a site called Wattpad. It’s for readers and writers alike, and they offer helpful feedback. I posted a chapter of a story on there, and a lot of people liked it and continuously asked me for the next and the next and so on. Now I’m currently writing Chapter Seven, and so far, I still recieve feedback. So when I get comments, and people to read my story, it makes me want to continue to write it. Maybe try sharing the story with friends? Online? Heck, even on Wattpad. It helped me stick to one story, and I plan to finish it. I sorta love the characters now :]

  6. i always start with a plan. if i don’t have a plan i can’t know where the story is going and i get bored. so instead of sitting down and writing the story properly write it down in dot points the start, setting the scene, the main conflict, the resolution, the ending. put down anything else you want to include and then write it. if you know what’s coming next and what you’re aiming towards it’s a lot more exciting
